Let’s dive into the exciting Aave x Aptos partnership! We’ll cover Aave’s history, the community vote for Aptos integration, and the recent testnet launch.
Aave, founded by @StaniKulechov in 2017, started as ETHLend before rebranding to Aave in 2018. It’s become a leading DeFi lending protocol, allowing users to lend and borrow crypto assets.
Aave has expanded to multiple chains over the years. The Aave V3 update in 2022 focused on improving capital efficiency, protocol safety, decentralization, and user experience.
In July 2024, the Aptos Foundation proposed deploying Aave V3 on the Aptos mainnet. This marked a significant step as Aave’s first potential non-EVM blockchain integration.
The proposal went through Aave’s governance process, starting with a “temperature check” to gather community feedback. It received overwhelming support with a 99.6% approval rate.
The governance process included:
-Temperature check
-Snapshot vote
-Aave Request for Comments (ARC)
-Aave Improvement Proposal (AIP)
On January 7, 2025, Aave Labs announced the deployment of Aave V3 on the Aptos testnet. This marks Aave’s first non-EVM integration, leveraging Aptos’ Move programming language.
The testnet phase aims to validate Aave V3’s security, stability, and performance on Aptos before a potential mainnet launch. Community members and developers can now test the integration.
To test Aave V3 on Aptos:
-Download the Petra wallet
-Request testnet tokens from the aptos.aave testing site
-The testnet tokens include $USDC, $AAVE, $WETH, #DAI
-Explore the available features

The Aptos integration offers several benefits:
-High throughput
-Enhanced security with Move language
-Low and predictable fees
-Flexible smart contract structure
This partnership opens new possibilities for both Aave and Aptos. It expands Aave’s reach beyond EVM chains and provides Aptos with a mature DeFi protocol, attracting more users and developers
